February 16th, 2012: Study Island and Ocean Test Review

Students:  Today, you are going to complete a practice quiz on study island and review using Study Island Games (Under the Hydrosphere section) for tomorrow’s test.  You can also make (or finish making) your study guide (“cheat sheet”) for tomorrow’s test.  You can also use the internet to help you finish the “7 Topics of the Ocean” Handout, which is due tomorrow.  You must print anything you type off today or email it to yourself and print it off at home!

Follow these steps:

1. Login to Study Island, Complete “Oceans Test Review” Assessment

2. Review for Oceans test by playing Study Island Games under the “Hydrosphere” section.

3. Use tehe internet as a resource to help you complete the  ”7 Topics of the Ocean”  handout or make your study guide.

January 19th, 2012: Ocean Ecosystem Group-Research and Presentation

Students:  Today you will be completing the internet research in small groups on 1 of the 9 oceanic ecosystems (listed below).  Your group is allowed to consist of 2 to 4 people and you are allowed to choose your group members and the ecosystem that your group would like to research.  However, I need you guys to make sure that each ecosystem is studied by at least 1 group!

Once in your groups, split up the research topics (as listed on the handout) for the ecosystem that your group chose and use the links provided on this blog to find information.  Write all the info that you find on the handout given in class.  You are going to have to search for the information and read several different sources to get good information on the ecosystem.  The provided sites will help you to do that.

Oceanic Ecosystems:

  1. Open Ocean
  2. Hydrothermic Vents
  3. Estuary
  4. Kelp Forest
  5. Intertidal Zone
  6. Coral Reef
  7. Neritic Zone
  8. Arctic Waters
  9. Mariana Trench

Research Links (Websites to use for your research):

1. Oceanic Habitats - Numerous Ecosystems – - EXPLORE this site

2. Ocean Life – Marine Animals and other things to check out

3. Ocean Links – A HUGE amount of websites to access

4. The Marine Biome – Check out the different Oceanic Zones

5. The Living Seas – Life near the Ocean Surface
